Earthquakes
Besides improving our knowledge about the Earth Interior, the geophysics aims also to contribute to the Earthquake Hazard mitigation. For an effective hazard mitigation it is critical to develop knowledge about recent geodynamic process, Earth crust structure, graound motion characteristics during large earthquakes, antropic environment response, seismic history for the past centureies or millennia. A correct seismic hazard evaluation is the result of a long process of collection and analysis of data from different disciplines. This evaluation is an essential tool for the Civil Protection to prepare plans to manage emergencies and to define priorities in the prevention plans.
