Soon after the mainshock occurrence, several teams moved to the area to install monitoring temporary networks, to perform post-earthquake damage surveys both on structures and the environment, to measure geodetic benchmarks and to collect water samples from springs and wells.
Aftershocks distribution draws faults structure with NW-SE strike and SW dip for the mainshock and the 5.1 aftershock near Campotosto to the North (cross-section on the left). The southernmost aftershock 5.3 might be locatedon an antithetic fault dipping toward NE (cross-section on the right).
The Gutenberg-Richter (6 - 14 April) curve shows the distribution of the aftershoks according to their number and magnitude. The slope of the curve indicates the b parameter, which, for this sequence, is similar to other seismic sequences of the Apennines.
